Hospital Guide
Public vs private, ward class, package price, what's included, and what real parents said. Updated for 2026.
Prices reflect 2026 package estimates for normal vaginal delivery, 2-bed or 1-bed ward. Actual costs depend on ward class, length of stay, complications, and your specialist's fees.
Choose public if: you want subsidised costs (subsidised ward can be as low as $1,000 total), you are comfortable with rotating O&G residents, and you do not mind a shared ward.
Choose private if: you want a single room, your chosen specialist to attend the birth, more predictable scheduling, and shorter wait times for elective C-sections.
The hospital bill is one part of the cost equation. Specialist fees for private O&G doctors range from $2,000 to $6,000 for normal delivery: separate from the hospital package.
