Maximising Baby Bonus and CDA Benefits in 2026

By Tiffany · 6 min read · Updated August 2026

Singapore's Baby Bonus scheme is one of the most generous in the region, but most parents leave money on the table because they do not understand how the Child Development Account (CDA) matching works. Here is the step-by-step.

Step 1: Register at the hospital

Most public and private hospitals have a Baby Bonus counter in the maternity ward. Submit your form before discharge: it takes 10 minutes and the staff will help you complete it. If you miss this, you can submit via the LifeSG app, but it is faster in person.

Step 2: Receive the Baby Bonus cash gift

The cash gift is paid in stages directly into your child's CDA account:

  • 1st & 2nd child: $6,000 total
  • 3rd & 4th child: $8,000 total
  • 5th child onwards: $10,000 total

There is no action required: the money lands in the CDA automatically.

Step 3: Maximise the CDA government matching

This is where most parents miss out. For every dollar you deposit into the CDA, the government matches a portion:

  • 1st child: First $3,000 matched dollar-for-dollar. Next $3,000 matched at $0.50 per $1.
  • 2nd child: Same structure: first $3,000 fully matched, next $3,000 at $0.50 per $1.
  • 3rd child: First $9,000 fully matched, next $9,000 at $0.50 per $1.

Maximum government matching per child:

  • 1st / 2nd child: up to $4,500 matching (3k @ 100% + 3k @ 50%)
  • 3rd+ child: up to $13,500 matching (9k @ 100% + 9k @ 50%)
Every dollar you deposit into the CDA in the first year is effectively a 50-100% return on your savings, tax-free. There is no other financial product in Singapore that offers this.

Step 4: Use the funds at approved institutions

The CDA can be used at:

  • Approved infant care and childcare centres
  • Approved kindergartens and preschools
  • Approved enrichment providers
  • Approved special education schools
  • Approved healthcare providers (some restrictions apply)
  • Assistive devices for children with special needs

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Depositing money but missing the matching deadline (deposit within the first 18 months to maximise matching)
  • Using the wrong provider (must be on the MSF-approved list)
  • Forgetting to register the birth within 42 days
  • Not nominating a CDA trustee if you are a single parent

Total money on the table

For a typical first child: $6,000 Baby Bonus + up to $4,500 CDA matching = $10,500 in government money, plus the Medisave Maternity Package on top. That is a significant part of your first-year baby budget.
